Day 23: Long and Steady

The weather finally broke and the weather seems to be back to normal. Today was an epic of a day at 145 miles. We woke up at 5:00 am this morning and got after the complimentary Continental breakfast. We started out the morning with a gentle crosswind out of the west. Eventually we started heading south east which helped us. The west wind ended up being a cross/tail wind at this point. The first crash of the trip took place today. I was out front and John's pannier bag got caught on my back right trailer wheel. I felt resistance on it and heard the sound of his pannier up against my wheel . He then broke free and went straight towards the curb at 15 mph. Luckily he went flying off his bike into the grass and had a pretty soft landing. There was a moment of silence and seriousness as he got up and checked over his bike. But then we both broke into laughter over the situation. We continued on and stopped in a small town at the public library to use the Internet. Luckily I was with John because I ended up passing out in the front lawn of the library. If I was solo there is a good chance I wouldn't have woken up until the next morning. Our camping situation was pretty funny. Who would have guessed Olivia, Minnesota claims to be the Corn Capital. I thought that honor went to Iowa.

Miles biked today: 146
Miles biked total: 1846
